Earlier in January, Fluxergy Co-Founder and CEO Tej Patel sat down with Dr. Nathan Ledeboer (PhD) from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he serves as Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Ledeboer has extensive experience in point-of-care (POC) diagnostics and has met with Fluxergy’s team to discuss what he sees as the pathway forward in point-of-care (POC) testing.
“If we can get a test that can come out of a point-of-care instrument with the same level of quality that comes out of a laboratory-based test, that [test] really has the opportunity to change the game and really improve the cost metrics, as well as the turnaround metrics.”
- Dr. Nathan Ledeboer
During their conversation, Tej and Dr. Ledeboer spoke about the requirements that POC testing must meet in order to justify replacing traditional laboratory testing. While the ability for physicians and advanced practice providers (APP’s) to make decisions in real-time can help better the standard of patient care, the current barriers to adoption make robust implementation difficult. These include high operating costs, low insurance reimbursements, and limited test menus from current devices.
Both Dr. Ledeboer and Fluxergy are committed to bringing new, more capable Analyzer platforms to market. Dr. Ledeboer has completed extensive research in POC solutions for a wide array of infectious diseases. Fluxergy is committed to releasing laboratory-quality tests that return results quickly within the same health center the sample was collected in, with their initial tests including a Flu A/Flu B/COVID/RSV panel, a basic metabolic panel, and a complete blood count with 5-part differential.
