About Our Presenters:
Dr. Nicola Pusterla is currently a professor in Equine Internal Medicine at UC Davis and chief of the large animal medicine services at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. He graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 1991 and earned his PhD from the University of Zurich with an emphasis on vector-borne diseases. He joined UC Davis in 1998. Dr. Pusterla is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine with an equine emphasis and has ongoing interest in all aspects of equine internal medicine and dentistry.
Dr. Ben Sykes is a veterinarian with over 26 years clinical experience and is boarded with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in large animal internal medicine. Throughout his career, he has worked with a wide range of horses, focusing on high performance horses in racetrack, breeding, and sport horse settings. In addition, I have a strong interest in clinical research and new product development/commercialization. His research has focused on gastrointestinal diseases of the horse with a specific focus on Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS), eventually serving as lead author on the 2015 ECEIM consensus statement on EGUS in adult horses.
Dr. Sykes maintains a strong interest in post-graduate education and has trained several residents and numerous interns in the clinical setting. He is also experienced in undergraduate curriculum development and delivery, both at didactic and clinical levels. He speaks regularly at conferences around the world on subjects relating to equine health.
